To work out the value of a resistor using the chart above, read the resistor as shown above in the diagram. The first two bands are taken i.e. brown and black would be 1 and 0 then just use the multiplier red = 100 - like so: 10 x 100 = 1000 ohms or 1K.
This becomes simple when you have learned the codes. Some resistors have a much more complex band system which we will explain below.
